Do you know how to spot bruxism symptoms? Bruxism is a common, yet often unobserved sleep disorder characterized by grinding or gnashing your teeth while unconscious and often done while asleep. Treating bruxism can be done correctly with night guards or bite plates, but the difficult task is determining if you even suffer from it, to begin with.

One of the most common symptoms of bruxism is pain or aching felt when waking up in the morning. This can include jaw pain or ear pain that is not easily associated with any other cause. Headaches and an increase in tooth sensitivity are also common. Over time, it is possible for victims of bruxism to develop a TMJ disorder due to the constant clenching of your jaw.

Visible signs may also be present. Check your teeth every morning to ensure that there are no irregular chips or cracks in your teeth and that they do not appear damaged. Bruxism has been known to cause teeth to look flat and worn out, and can often convert the appearance of your smile into a duller visage. Your cheek tissue may also show signs of biting in patients who have bruxism.
